How to use Turnitin in Canvas
IMPORTANT! Turnitin in Canvas can be used in two different ways; the full interface (Option 1), or just the plagiarism review (Option 2). Although Turnitin shows under External Tool, it is not available. Do not use that option. Any Turnitin assignments imported from Blackboard must be re-created.
Option 1: Full Turnitin interface with similarity reports, grademark, rubrics and quickmarks
- In your course, click on the Assignments link in the left tool bar.
- On the Assignments page, you will see three dots in the top right portion of the screen. Click the three dots.
- In the pop-up menu, you will see Turnitin. Click it to launch the tool.
- Follow the prompts to set up the Turnitin assignment.
- For further help with Turnitin, please review Turnitin LTI tutorials.
Option 2: Canvas Assignment with only plagiarism review
- In your course, click on Assignments in the left tool bar.
- Click on the ‘+ Assignments‘ button in the top right corner.
- On the next screen, for the Submission Type field, select Online.
- Select Text Entry or File Upload, or, both options for Online submission type.
- Once you select these options, Plagiarism Review field will appear. Click on the arrow to select Turnitin.
- Under Show report to students, select the desired option.
- Once all other fields are completed, click Save.
- After submissions have been made, the similarity report will appear in SpeedGrader.
